Nothing like the sound of a Weissenborn lap steel. The guitars built by Hermann Weissenborn in the 1920´s are the stuff of legend among Hawaiian guitar players. Almost 80 years after the last one was made, the Weissenborn guitar is living a revival thanks to contemporary artists from all over the world.
Main role on this Weissenborn revival is played by Ben Harper, wich has made of weissenborn guitars his own personal seal. Ben Harper performs with a huge collection of slide guitars and weissenborns, wich he masterly performs, showing these instrument´s posibilities and strenght on any field he wants. The Weissenborn steel is also inspiring and playing a main role on great new talent´s careers, such as Xavier Rudd´s, John Butler´s or Andrew Winton.
After brought to attention of public a few years ago in the 90´s, luthiers and guitar builders started making new weissenborn based instruments, both acoustics or electric versions; Asher Guitars, David Dart, Emmanuel Romont, Christophe Grellier and many others make custom orders and special slide-guitar series, basing their designs on the beautiful weissenborn shape.



Other manufacturers, like Gold Tone, are making more affordable Weissenborn pieces for fans and not so fans, because these guitars touch the heart of musical sense all people have inside, and their distinctive shape attracts the sense of refined tastes. In our shop, you´ll be able to find all Gold Tone´s Weissenborn models as well as electric Asher´s. All of them inspired on Hermann Weissenborn´s guitars.
